**REVISED story. As of 6/12/17, this story is no longer a Colonial. It's been revised to be a Regency Romance Suspense. Previously titled - "Falling In Love Again".
Marcus Thorne wears several masks in his life—playing retired pirate, Captain Hawk, is his favorite, but if his secret is discovered, he could die. Captivated by his enemy’s daughter, Marcus kidnaps her, but in turn, she captures his heart…until he discovers Isabelle is one of Napoleon’s spies with the power to endanger his life and the lives of his friends.
After her release, Isabelle can’t stop thinking about her masked abductor and how he’d stolen her heart before ridding her of his presence. Betrothed to a man who strangely reminds her of the man whose kisses set her ablaze, she marries him, only to discover he’s not who he seemed to be as is withholding secrets. But then…so is she.

This sweet romance kept me reading until I finished it…and then, had me wishing there were more pages to read. I stumbled onto Marie Higgins’ historical romances a couple of years ago, and have read at least eight of her books, enjoying each– and always up for reading another one.The story takes place in New York in the year 1766, several years before the American Revolution. Isabelle Stanhope comes to America in hopes of straightening out her deceased father’s affairs and secure her inheritance. By strange coincidence, her stagecoach is held up by the same infamous highwayman that killed her father, Captain Hawk. This ruthless Captain of cutthroats and his gang brutally murdered her father and stole much of his valuables. As the stagecoach comes to a bumpy halt, Isabelle grabs a dagger that suddenly falls from an opened satchel, hiding it in the folds of her dress. Isabelle Stanhope and her companion, Mrs. Winters, are terrified they will end up just as dead as Isabelle’s father, Commodore Stanhope.
Isabelle shrewdly decides to withhold her true identity and makes up a name when the Captain questions her. But the Captain recognizes something in his beautiful hostage and decides to hold her as his special guest. Isabelle and the Captain learn much about each other…except the obvious. I will stop here so that I don’t spoil this for anyone. But do keep in mind... Isabellel has a hidden dagger...fear...and a grudge. Okay...now I need to stop.
The storyline and the characters are both refreshing. The story has several interesting and creative plot twists. The only criticism that I have is the voice and pace of the book – there is an overuse of narration style in the first part of the book, and the pace seemed slower. However, that diminishes towards the middle, and the pace of the book picks up considerably and conversation between the characters carries the storyline.
The hero of this book is going to be a favorite of mine. I want to tell you about him – but it’s hard without giving away some of the really cool plot twists! Just buy this book and read it. I will tell you that his name is Marcus. And a couple more tidbits… If you enjoy fun historical romances books about the pre-revolutionary war period, you may enjoy this book. If you enjoy spunky heroines and tender hearted, but strong heroes – you will enjoy this story. A really good read!

After the Loving Regency Romance Suspense Heroic Rogues Series Book 2 edition by Marie Higgins Romance eBooks Reviews
This story was OK. The Hero and Heroine were not one of my favorites. I enjoyed the other two books in the series a lot more.
A very good read. Well defined characters and she is one of my favorite author
This story could be so good, if not for all the errors. It's very distracting. I enjoy her style of writing and wish her lots of luck. If it ever does get edited, I would love to come back and give it more stars, but I just can't the way it stands now.
Although, one secondary character tied the series together along with the storyline of the SOL, it was a good read, following the author's wholesome vein for the series. I enjoyed the mystery, playacting, and passion of the storyline.
I really enjoyed this book. This was the first book I have read from this author. I know this is a second in the series, but I was in no way lost in the story line. I love pirate stories (my favorites by MaryLu Tyndall) and this was great that this was a pirate turned highwayman. I enjoyed the interactions between the hero and the heroine. I also like the fact that the heroine knew she needed the hero's help sometimes. Great twists and turns that I really didn't see coming. The title fits the story so well. You will have to read it to find out why. This was a clean adult read. Looking forward to more from this author expecially her new paranormal.
I read Wonderland By Night and LOVED it! It wasn't until I started this one that I realized there are three books to this series and that I was reading them backwards! Lol They will all go in my favorites so later I will read them again in order. I must now find Take My Heart! I read the excerpt from it at the end of this book and I can hardly wait to read it! Marie Higgins is now a new favorite author of mine! You lady, are brilliant!
The story is about a pirate turned highwayman that is trying to uncover secrets from the Royal Navy. Marcus Thorne lives a double life, going back and forth between his shipping business in New York and leading his gang of highwaymen. As the story opens, his gang has taken a group of travelers prisoner, including Isabelle Stanhope. Marcus recognizes her as the daughter of an enemy and decides to exact his revenge through her. The two begin falling in love but happy ever after is interrupted when Marcus suspects that Isabelle is actually a spy.
Overall, this was fairly enjoyable light reading, even though the writing isn't of the highest quality, and the plot had elements that stretched credulity, and that didn't quite make sense. The undercurrent of what would become the American Revolution is used vaguely as a backdrop for the romantic storyline, but to be honest it took me until almost halfway through before I was clear that the author intended this to take place somewhere in the colony of New York in the mid-1700s. The highwayman aspect of the story read more like Marcus was a stagecoach robber in the Old West, despite frequent references to his past as a pirate and to the Royal Navy. I did find that the editing errors increased in the last third or so of the book, some of which could possibly be attributed to formatting errors rather than poor writing or editing, but certainly not all.
In summary, this is a relatively clean and slightly fluffy romance, with interesting plot twists; but be willing to ignore inconsistencies in the details of the plot and setting.
